Anderson signs on again
Oxford City Stars are delighted to announce that Head Coach Simon Anderson has signed on for next season.
The news follows a hugely successful first season in charge for Simon, with his side making the play-offs having securing at least fifth place in the table, with a chance of making fourth.
Anderson took over as head coach last summer having been Darren Elliott’s bench coach the year before in Oxford’s first season back in NIHL1.
He took over the top job from Elliott before this season, as Darren wanted to devote more time to his hockey. It’s proven to be a successful decision, with Anderson’s experience, tactics and connections giving the Stars an edge that has boosted them up the NIHL1 table.
David Hurn, club co-ordinator and a Director for the Stars, said: “Simon’s been an enormous success story for the Stars and we’re extremely happy he’s committed to another season at Oxpens Road. The club has come on leaps and bounds in the past four years, and Simon’s massive contribution, commitment and professionalism has made sure us to keep that forward momentum going – who knows where it could lead us in the coming years!”
Anderson commented: “I am delighted to have agreed a return to coach the Stars. The season has been a huge success with us moving into 5th spot and pushing for 4th. I have enjoyed working with the players, they are a fantastic bunch of guys and they make it a pleasure to come to the rink. The goal is to now go as deep as we can in the playoffs and then build this club to the next level during the summer, both on and off the ice. The challenge is then for us to hopefully break into the top 4 next season and with the guys we have, if we can keep them together, I do not feel this is an unrealistic team goal.”
