Classy Stars Continue Winning Streak

Match Report: Stars Vs Invicta Mustangs

4th March 2019    Match,News

Following on from the Saturday’s away victory to the Romford Raiders, the Stars were able to continue their winning streak even further by earning a victory in their second match of their double header weekend just gone. The second leg of the weekend was a home match against the Invicta Mustangs, to which the Stars walked away with a healthy win goal margin of 7 goals to 2.

The scoring got off to a rapid start as the first goal was netted within the first 3 minutes of the game. Dax Hedges was able to get to winning ways early on with this goal; Josh Oliver and Darren Elliott assisting. Despite the early goal, no further penalties or scoring took place until half way through the period when the Mustangs were hit with a tripping penalty. This opened up a power play opportunity that the Stars took full advantage of to put themselves in the position of doubling their advantage – this goal was scored by Tom Davis and assisted by Lee Richardson and a further assist to Milan Ronai (at least according to the game sheet). Before the ending of the period a further 2 goals were scored by Richardson and Lawday with Davis, Redmond and Oravec adding assists. All of this saw the Stars lead with a score of 4-0.

The second period saw a flurry of penalties for both sides and another goal for the Stars. Despite the Mustangs being awarded more penalties than the Stars, Oxford were unable to take full advantage of any of their windows of being on the power play despite their best efforts. The Stars goal was scored a mere 23 seconds into the period as a result of a long range shot from Dom Hopkins back on the blue line. At the end of 40 minutes of play the Stars sat comfortably with a 5-0 lead with one final period left to play.

Heading towards the closing of the match, the Stars were able to score their next 2 goals to take them up to their final tally of seven goals before the Mustangs scored either of their only 2 goals for the night. The first Stars goals of the period was scored by Whillock while the second goal of the period – the final goal for the Stars – was scored by Harry Harrison. This was his first senior goal. The remaining action for the evening was the goals scored by Bliss and Ferris of the Mustangs to break the shut out Ronai had held on to until 9 minutes short of the end of the final period.
