Club Announce Darren Elliott testimonial

29th March 2019    News

Oxford City Stars have granted club captain Darren Elliott a testimonial.

The testimonial match honours Darren’s remarkable service and loyalty to the Stars and his contribution to sport in Oxfordshire.

Darren, who holds the club record for the highest number of appearances, has played competitive ice hockey for 29 years – 27 has been at Oxford.

The Oxford Stars v Elliott’s Select match will take place on June 16th at Oxpens and doors will open at 5.30pm and fans are advised to buy tickets in advance.

It is a fantastic opportunity for fans to come and thank Darren for his contribution to the club and watch numerous old legends return to the ice alongside current players.

Darren said: “I’m so grateful to the club for granting me a testimonial, it’s an honour for me and my family.

“Playing for the Stars has meant the world to me and I’ve loved every minute of it.

“It will be an emotional day knowing it’s my last game for the Stars, but it will also be a lot of fun for everyone.

“A lot of great players have agreed to play for me, and I am sure it will be a great ice hockey occasion.

“The number of messages I’ve received since I announced my retirement has been overwhelming. Now I’m concentrating on enjoying the rest of the season and making sure I finish on a high.

“It’s not really sunk in that it is coming to an end – but once the season is over, I know I’ll really start to look forward to the testimonial match.”

Elliott testimonial merchandise is now on sale from the club here:
