Defenceman rejoins the Stars
With the 2017/18 now in full swing, Oxford City Stars are pleased to announce another signing to join the squad in the form of experienced defensive player Andrew Shurmer.
Swindon born Shurmer made his hockey debut with the Swindon Chill during the 1990/2000 season, and for the most part of his career has played for various clubs based in his hometown including the Chill, Phoenix, Lynx, Cougars and Wildcats. Other clubs that he’s iced for outside of Swindon include the Bristol Pitbulls, Cardiff Devils and Wightlink Raiders.
Shurmer has also previously played for the Oxford City Stars at various points since 2003, but most significantly he played 69 games for the Stars between 2008 and 2011, notching up 15 goals and 41 assist during that time.
Shurmer has had a break from hockey since 2013, and now having reignited his passion for the sport once again he joins the Stars for the 2017/18 season.
Kenny Redmond, Head Coach of the Oxford City Stars, had the following to say about his new recruit: “I’m delighted with the signing, he is a really composed player on and off the puck and he reads the game really well, I’m sure he’ll be a great addition to the roster”.
