Jake Florey Returns to the Roster
Oxford City Stars have continued to expand their defensive squad for the upcoming season with the re-signing of Jake Florey.
Florey has now been playing for the Stars for the last 4 consecutive seasons, and he’s certainly made his presence known to the Oxpens Road fans during that time. Before playing for Oxford Jake iced for the Milton Keynes Thunder and spent the good majority of his junior career playing out of Basingstoke.
Jake has also picked up awards at the Stars annual End of Season Awards Night over the past 2 years, recognising the improvements he’s made on the ice since starting out in a Stars jersey back in 2013.
Talking about coming back to play in Oxford, Florey stated “I’m excited to be back playing for Oxford this year, and to face different teams and challenges following the re-shuffling of the league structure. I think it is great that the juniors have now joined up to make a single combined club, I know it has been a while since any of our juniors have really been given a chance to play senior hockey in Oxford, they often have to play elsewhere to make that step up which is not good for them or the development of the rest of our juniors looking up to them. The whole setup this year makes the Stars and exciting organisation to play for, and I can’t wait to get back training”.
Head Coach Kenny Redmond spoke about Jake’s return to the club: “I’m delighted to have Jake Florey returning. He’s a solid defenceman with a lot of talent, and he’s enthusiastic to improve and will play a major role for us in the season ahead”.
