Josh Florey’s New Year message
Captain Josh Florey’s New Year’s message:
Hello all, and happy new year to all Stars players, fans & volunteers.
Over the Christmas period most us enjoyed time with our families and
unwinding; It’s the one time of the year where everybody stops. We won’t be
getting a training session in before the MK away game, so most guys will get in
some sort of workout before the weekend to shake off the turkey!
So far I think we’ve had a mixed bag of results, some amazing and some disappointing. We’re currently sitting in 6th position, our aim for the season was to be in and around that mark. But now having played every team at least once, I believe we can climb a couple of places to see out the season.
We’ve had some incredible games already; the first game of the season would be one that stands out for me. Coming from 5-0 down to win 6-5 against Bracknell was a massive achievement, especially that early in the season. That said, I think the most exciting was the shootout win against Solent; It had a bit of everything! It must have been exciting from a fan’s standpoint. In fact, I think that might be the first shootout at Oxpens Road?
It’s still early days but we’re in the play-off spots and hope we can remain there for the rest of the season. The play-offs are a different bag all together. Forget who wins the league, play-off hockey is a completely different type of hockey. Over two legs, it could be anybody’s game. I think if you can get a good run of games and results to end the regular season then that sets a good base for going into the play-offs. Our last 3 games are against Streatham & Solent away & home – I fully expect both of those teams will be up around the top at the end of the season, it will be a huge couple of games to prep us for the play-offs.
A huge help has been the Oxpens crowd, it makes a huge difference to our games, and we can’t thank the fans enough. Not only for their support, but for sticking by us – home & away, win or lose. It’s been great to hear more cheering, banging & drumming than ever before this season, but we could always do with more!
Here’s to a successful second half of the season & great 2020!
