Oxford City Stars’ forward Josh Oliver scooped three awards at the club’s end of season party.

Oliver, 25, who weighed in with 30 goals during the Stars’ double winning season, was awarded the coveted Coaches’ Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, plus the Media Player of the Year, voted on by the local media.

He said: “When there are so many great players and great blokes in the squad to be selected for one award, let alone three really is an honour and one I didn’t expect. We’ve had a great season, and everyone has played their part as a team and a club.”

Around 120 people attended the end of season party at the Jurys Inn, Oxford, at the weekend to celebrate the club’s NIHL Division 2 South and NIHL Division 2 National League championship winning year.

The evening was hosted by BBC Radio Oxford commentator Andrew Self and included speeches from club directors and players.

Jake Florey was awarded Most Improved Defenceman and his brother Josh Most Improved Forward. Mike Whillock, who bagged 21 goals, won Best Forward and net-minder Ronai Milan won Best Defenceman.

Conor Redmond, 23, was awarded Young Player of the Year and defenceman Dominic Hopkins was voted the Fans’ Player of the Year.

Hopkins said: “The fans have been absolutely fantastic all season and they really do make a difference.”

Neil Shewry who manages the club’s social media was awarded Unsung Hero and fan Clair Smith, who is a Star’s volunteer won Club Person of the Year.

Head Coach Kenny Redmond said: “It was difficult picking the awards, as everyone in the squad has been superb this season. The players have been brilliant for us.”

Director Greig Box Turnbull added: “It was a brilliant season, and everyone had a great night celebrating with the trophies. Our thanks go to everyone who has supported the club and played a part to help progress the Stars and create so many memories from the season.”
