Meet Ozzy and Connor
Oxford City Stars have made a couple of strong additions to their roster for next season with the signing of the experienced centre Steve Osman and talented young netminder Connor Ranby.
27 year old Osman joins the Stars from the Bristol Pitbulls in NIHL2 where he scored an impressing 17 goals in just 11 games in the second half of last season. He had previously plied his trade at a number of NIHL1 sides where his scoring record is also impressive.
Head coach Simon Anderson commented: “Ozzy is a tremendous capture for us and just shows how ambitious we are as a club signing players with his quality. He obviously had a lot of teams after him and that’s what you would expect from a player of his calibre, so we are delighted that he has chosen us. You know that he is going to bring a lot of offence for our team, but I think he has a lot more to his game. Every time I have seen him play, he is very aware of his defensive duties also and is solid in all three zones. I think he will fit nicely into the roster we are building here and I look forward to seeing him on the ice so he can show the fans what he’s capable of.”
19 year old Ranby has played for the Coventry Blaze in the Elite League and was part of their play-off winning squad last season and will help to fill the hole left behind by James Skaife who stepped down this week to follow a job opportunity away from ice hockey.
Anderson is pleased with capture of such a talented youngster: “Replacing Skaifey was probably one of the toughest parts of my team building this summer. Connor has come from a winning background at the highest level. We are only interested in signing winners for our club so Connor fitted the bill perfectly. If you look at his resumé, he has improved every time he has moved up a level so we are hopeful of him keeping that going. He has played in the Nottingham and Coventry system so he would have had a good coaching there. He worked closely with the best goalie in the Elite League last season, Brian Stewart – I’m sure he’s picked up some good things from him. He will certainly get the opportunity to showcase his talents and we have every confidence that we have made the right move signing him.”
The pair join crowd favourites Alan Green and Andy Cox on the Stars roster after they both re-joined the Stars last week. Also already signed up are Josh Florey, Mike Whillock and player-coach Darren Elliott. The club is set to announce yet more players in the next couple of weeks.
