Oxford City Stars prepared for new season
Oxford City Stars Head Coach Simon Anderson said he has taken plenty of positives out of the weekend’s challenge games.
The Stars played London Raiders home and away and while both games saw reverse score-lines the matches were always designed to prepare for the league campaign.
Simon said: “They weren’t the results we wanted over the weekend but considering we had only practiced together three times this season I thought that the performance levels were acceptable.
“We have a lot of new players trying to get to know one another off the ice as well as on it and that is going to take time.”
The challenge matches have Simon the opportunity to develop the team’s lines and systems and get the players vital match fitness.
“Primarily my focus for the games were for exactly that and the fitness side of things,” said Simon.
“I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly the players executed the systems put in place.”
“We obviously need to work as hard as we can every week to perfect our game, but with the work this group of players put in it will not take long to come together.”
The Stars’ eagerly awaited league campaign back in Division One starts on Sunday at Oxpens against the Bracknell Hornets.
