National Ice Hockey League Division 1 (South)

Ice Hockey is a fast-paced, team sport built on skill, speed, discipline and teamwork. It is a game that requires quick thinking and fast reactions along with the development of many special skills such as skating, passing, puck handling and shooting.

Worldwide the sport now has almost 2 million players of all ages.  So why not give the game a go? If your interested in getting involved in ice hockey then Oxford has plenty of ways that you can do so. In addition to the Stars, Oxford is home to no fewer than fourteen ice hockey teams, taking players from every level and age!

Oxford Junior Stars run five teams at the Under 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18’s age groups and kids can start learning the game from 4/5 years old!  In addition to the age-group teams, the junior club also runs a FREE stick-and-puck session every Sunday which introduces new players (aged 16 and under) to the game.  Helmets, sticks and gloves are provided for all players taking part in stick and puck – and special lightweight pucks are used so no other equipment is required.  Kids can learn the basics in a safe environment with qualified coaches at every session.

Many of the Stars team help out at this season (unless at an away game) and if the session is before a Stars home game, entry into the game is free for kids from stick and puck. The sports world governing body, the IIHF has provided a fantastic guide on why ice hockey is such a fantastic game for kids, which is available from here: Welcome to Ice Hockey.

The Junior club can be contacted on their website @
