Joey Edwards and Mark Duffy move on
Edwards and Duffy leave Oxford City Stars
Oxford City Stars can confirm Joey Edwards and Mark Duffy have left the club.
Forward Edwards has signed for Rightmove MK Thunder and net-minder Duffy has re-joined Bracknell Hornets.
The Stars thank both players for their excellent contribution to the club and wish them well for the future.
Edwards has played most of his career at Oxford and previously played at MK in the 2011/12 season.
He said: “As an Oxford boy leaving the club has been a difficult decision, but I felt I had to take the opportunity to test myself at a higher level. I take immense pride from having played for Oxford and I’ve so many great memories from my time with the club. I’d like to thank all my team mates, coaches, club staff and the fans for being so supportive. I’ll be sure to visit as often as I can, and I wish everyone well for the future.”
Duffy joined Oxford in 2016 and played a big part in the Stars double triumph last season.
He said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Oxford and wish everyone well for the future. It’s been a great couple of years for everyone at Oxford and it’s a great club.”
Head Coach Kenny Redmond said: “We wish both Joey and Mark all the best for the future. They’ve been great servants to the club and they’re both always be welcome back at Oxpens.
“Joey got a great offer from MK and while we’re sad to see him go we couldn’t stand in his way.
“Mark has got a new job and with the increased commitments that have come with it felt it best to return to his home club to reduce his travelling.
“We’re looking at the January market and if the right player becomes available, we will see what can be done to strengthen. But overall we’ve got a strong squad and we’re in the mix at the right end of the table with everything to play for.”
Edwards will make his debut for Rightmove MK Thunder tonight, but as part of the agreement between the two clubs he will ice for the Stars for the last time at Cardiff Fire next weekend.
