Matt, 28, who scored 21 goals for the Stars last season did not hesitate to return for his third year at Oxford to play for “the best fans in the league.”

He said: “It feels good to be back for another season and with the new structure within the club and the step up to ENL1. It was a no brainier for me we have the best fans in the league and we should all get ready for an exciting season ahead.”

Head Coach Simon Anderson said: “I’m really excited to work with Matt. He is a player who I have kept tabs on every time I have coached in the UK. Matt is a smart player with a scoring touch and a kid who just wants to learn and get better. He will play a pivotal role this season and I hope he recreates the scoring touch he had in Solent when he played at this level the last time.”
