Stars Stung by Hornets

4th November 2019    News

The Oxford City Stars had their second home defeat of the season against a well organised Bracknell Hornets team.

This was the third game between the sides this season and the teams went into this game with one victory each.

Bracknell opened the scoring but Jake Williams responded quickly to level the score. Tom Ravenscroft and Matt Lawday added to the Stars tally. A mix up in the Stars defence gifted Bracknell another goal and the teams finished the first with Oxford leading 3-2.

Ryan Widmar scored less than a minute into the second. A tense moment between the teams led to 4 Oxford players in the penalty box and Bracknell were able to capitalise with a goal on the power play. Josh Oliver maintained the lead with a goal (and the most ecstatic celebration Oxpens has seen in a while!).

Bracknell were by far the stronger team in the final period and capitalised on a leaky Oxford defence. The Hornets scored 3 goals with ease and although the Stars were denied two goals (the posts were judged to have moved), they were on the backfoot as they lost their victory. Bracknell sealed the win with a final, open-net goal to win 5-8.
