Oxford City Stars today announced the re-signing of speedy forward Mike Whillock. Whillock, 23 has been part of the Stars squad at Oxpens Road for the last 2 seasons after a brief spell in Germany. Whillock scored 11 goals in 26 games last season and will be a useful addition to the Stars forward line.
Mike has been spending the close season keeping fit – Mike said “It’s fun to get out on the bike and try out different things in the gym”
Coach Anderson added “It’s great to have Mike back. He’s a great guy to have around. He works hard in all 3 zones and i like his work ethic and grit that he brings. Mike is strong on the walls and in the corners, He’s always there for his team mates and is not afraid to drop the gloves when needed!”
Mike’s reputation as a battler doesn’t show in his statistics where his Penalty Minutes or indeed lack of them hide his feisty style of play.
Whillock added of the upcoming season “The squad looks stronger than ever and I can see the players from last season coming back even fitter and more prepared, mentally and physically. Personally I would like to deliver the same quality as last season just more of it, speed, shots & hopefully more goals!”
Coach Anderson stated “I’m looking for more of the same from Mike but I will be challenging him to improve his points production and lead us to help improve our secondary scoring.”
