Oxford City Stars have swooped to sign Sham Shone from Bristol Pitbulls.
The D-Man goes straight into the Stars’ squad ready for this weekend’s opening matches.
Experienced Shone, 31, has played most of his career at Bristol Pitbulls and Slough Jets and is no stranger to Stars’ fans – after icing for Oxford in the 2019/2020 season. He joined training last week and played in the Stars’ recent exhibition match.
Head Coach Simon Anderson said: “It's great to have Sam back for this season. I just felt that we needed to add one more piece to round out our roster for the coming season and Sam fits the bill perfectly.
“He knows the level, the club and how I work, so this addition should have a seamless transition and that can only benefit the team.
“Sam is positionally sound, incredibly agile for his big frame and is always looking for ways to improve as a player. He is a great guy to have around and we are excited to see how Sam can help us this year.
“With the roster now complete I am happy with the business myself and Shane have done. It has been a long summer of recruitment, but I'm convinced we have recruited a great bunch of guys who are all committed to driving this great club forward. We can’t wait to get going this weekend.”
Shone said: “I’m really excited to be back playing in in Oxford this year. Simon gave me the call and told me about the group he has put together and it was a no brainer. I really enjoyed my season Oxford before and I was gutted it had got cut short by Covid.
“It was a nice feeling to come back to Oxford and be welcomed back by all the fans and saying hello to new and old faces. I’m looking forward to getting going to the season ahead.”
